Stanley, a single American cartoonist, rich and famous, lives his life courting girls and beautiful women. But one day, during a friend’s bachelor party, he is drunk and bumps into an out-of-the-cake surprise girl. He proposes her marriage without realizing it and they marry during the party, thanks to a judge who was one of the guests. The next morning Stanley would like to step back but he gets informed by his lawyer that he has to live with it. To vent about the new situation Stanley draws a comic strip where he imagines killing his wife, she gets offended and leaves him without giving notice putting her wedding ring on the night table. Later, when the police is looking for the woman and sees Stanley’s comic strip about the murder, he is accused of murder. He will get to trial where he will have to defend himself alone. A big success in the United States and one of the movies filmed in Hollywood for Virna Lisi who although, as Alida Valli had already done, preferred to come back to her native land.
