Francesco Patierno

Type:
He was born in Naples on April 24, 1964. He graduated in architecture and became the creative director of an advertising agency, "Roma Italy Comunication". He has been dealing with television services for RAI and has directed documentaries, video clips and commercials. His first short film Quel giorno (1996) has screened at the 53rd Venice Film Festival and then presented at many international events. His first feature film is Pater Familias (2002) with Maria Pia Calzone, Ernesto Mahieux, Lucia Ragni and Marina Suma. The film, taken from the same novel by Massimo Cacciapuoti, succeeds in having two nominations as the best debut filmmaker for both David of Donatello and the Nastri d’Argento. The same year, he directed for C’era una volta the documentary Zero describing female murders committed in Bangalore for the appropriation of their dowry. In 2007, he returns to the feature film with The Early Bird catches the Worm, derived from the autobiography Il giocatore by Marco Baldini. The film interpreted by Elio Germano, Laura Chiatti and Martina Stella, tells the unhealthy illness of gambling by an Italian dj that will end up hopelessly in the hands of the shylocks, without however communicating great curiosity in the spectator. In 2010 he directed the Things from Another World (2011), freely inspired by Sergio Arau's A day without mexicans (2004), and later in 2014 with the black comedy People who are well interpreted by Claudio Bisio, Margherita Buy and Diego Abatantuono. He presented the documentary with Benedict Cumberbatch Naples'44 at the Rome Film Festival 2016.
