If you happen to be in Paris and you think your husband or wife is being unfaithful, there's a man who's right on your case: Claude Chavasse, the top private investigator in Paris. A widower for many years now, he lives with his young daughter Ariane in a flat that doubles as office and archive. Ariane, who plays the cello, is at an age when she's very curious about her father's work; he instead tries to keep her well away from a world of such low and dubious morals. Anyway, the girl just can't resist having a peek through her father's files and in doing so comes across a multitude of interesting titbits. Her attention is drawn particularly to the amorous adventures of Frank Flanagan, an American millionaire who makes frequent visits to Paris.
