Lou Castel

Born May 28th 1943 in Bogota Colombia by a Sweden man and an Irish woman he’s growing between Jamaica, New York and Stockholm before arriving in Italy in the 1960s. He attends dramatic art courses by Alessandro Fersen and the directing course at the Centro Sperimentale di Cinematografia in Rome where in 1965 he meets Marco Bellocchio, who chose him as a rebellious protagonist for his movie Fists in the pocket. He will choose him again  for a cameo in the movie  In the Name of the Father and Those eyes, that mouth.

Castel appeared in a hundred films of different nationalities and genres, working mostly with Italian and German and French directors, such as Liliana Cavani, Claude Chabrol, Wim Wenders, Ettore Scola, Philippe Garrel and Carlo Lizzani with whom he is performing at the side of Pier Paolo Pasolini in Requiescant.

Apoide, politically engaged and eclectic artist, in 2016, is narrated in the documentary by Pierpaolo De Sanctis With Fists in the Pocket, screened at the 34th Torino Film Festival.

He was the husband of the actress Marcella Michelangeli from whom he had a son: Rocco Quarzell.
