Giulio is a boy who is unable to forget his first love, the beautiful and independent Aurora. Aurora decides to leave her Sicilian village and go to work in Rome, thus creating an irreparable fracture in their relationship. Much later, still in love with her, Giulio arrives in Rome with the intention of tracking her down. He goes to stay at the house of a couple who are friends of the family: Rosalia and Eugenio. Rosalia is a mature woman who has lost a son of Giulio's age and suffers from the anguish of having been unable to save him.
