Christmas Eve in Warsaw. Taxi driver Janusz is happily spending the evening with his wife and two children. Ewa – a former lover and someone in whose regard he feels guilty – comes to him asking for help in finding her missing husband Edward. They head out into the frozen, foggy night, prowling the city in Janusz' car on a fruitless search for Edward: Ewa is very agitated and acts aggressively towards Janusz, insisting that it was he who wanted to break up their relationship. Janusz, resignedly tolerates the woman's behaviour, even when he has realised that she lad lied about the missing husband. Now it is dawn: Janusz realises that for that night, Ewa had simply wanted to share her loneliness with him. The two go their separate ways for good. Janusz returns home to his anxiously waiting wife.
