Decalogo IV - Onora il padre e la madre

International title:
Decalogue IV - Honor thy father and thy mother
Anno:
di Krzysztof Kieslowski (Pol, 1988, 53') v.it. dom 6 h 17,10 Anka's mother died shortly after her birth. She has since lived with her father Michal in Warsaw. One day Anka finds a letter written by her mother before her death, to be read by Anka only after the death of her father. This, along with a photograph of her mother in the company of other men, disturbs the girl greatly. She does not however open the letter but instead tells Michal she has, and that she now knows that he is not her real father: they thus feel free to confess their own real and repressed feelings. But nothing happens between them; Anka owns up to what she has done. Together they decide to burn the mother's letter. Except that the letter doesn't burn completely; there remain some intelligible words that open up a chasm of tragic doubt.
