Warsaw: After many years of estrangement, brothers Jerzy, a prim little bourgeois, and Artur, a young pop singer, are reunited at the funeral of their father, a man who had led a very modest and private life. At his house, the two brothers find only a huge stamp collection that they judge
to be of little value. Having decided to sell the collection, they discover that it is in fact worth millions: so delighted are they to be in possession of such treasure that rather than sell it they install a new security system and even a guard dog; Jerzy decides to increase its value by acquiring a rare stamp in exchange for one of his kidneys. But when he gets out of hospital after the operation he finds that the entire collection has been stolen. Both brothers are mutually suspicious and report each other to the police. Now infected with the passion for possessing only stamps, each of them, unbeknownst to the other, begins a new collection.
