synopsis
A young magistrate from the north is appointed to the post of district judge in Sicily. In his new village he is regarded with suspicion and hostility. He eventually finds himself in conflict with a powerful landowner, but in a development that overcomes fear and omertà, he receives help from the local people and even a Mafia chief.
