Nuccio, Gerardo, Frida and Adelmo live among the narrow streets of their village, Oliveto Citra, in the Sele valley near the Picentini mountains. Summer is coming and the heat in the Sele valley hangs heavy. The four kids go down to the river bank, where they know a fisherman named Macario. The old man teaches them the secrets of the valley and the course the river takes – a metaphor for life – from its beginnings at the Sanità springs in Caposele, to its end in the Tyrrhenian Sea near Paestum. Driven by their strong curiosity, they discover these places in the Sele. But above all they discover themselves, in a lively, playful, personal and painful rite of passage experience. An initiatory journey along the river Sele, in its entirety from source to mouth, becomes a metaphor for life.
