Julian Schnabel, was born in Brooklyn by a Jewish family and is a celebrated New York painter. Graduated in Art at the University of Houston, Julian set up his first exhibition in 1979 at the Mary Boone Gallery in New York. From that moment on onwards is a succession of successes, so that his works, from sculpture to painting, were exhibited in museums and collections around the world. In the mid-1990s he started the Cinema path: he wrote and directed Basquiat and Before night falls was nominated at the Academy Awards. In 2007 he directed The Diving Bell and the Butterfly, an adaptation of Jean-Dominique Bauby's book, winning the Prize as Best Director at the Cannes Film Festival. His movie, Miral, was in cometition at the Venice Festival in 2010.
