Marianne and Johan are a couple of forty years old, married for ten years. Their marriage seems to be solid and serene and their union appears strong, also thanks to the presence of the two daughters Karin and Eva. They are the typical happy couple, unlike Peter and Katarina, a couple of friends, who violently express even in public their malaise and their mutual hatred. The comparison with the two reassures and comforts Marianne on her own conjugal serenity. But the crisis, unexpected and inexplicable at least for the woman, will not be long to come and to break the apparent love idyll. Divided in six parts, the film unfolds over a long period of their relationship and shows several moments in the life of Johan and Marianne, touching a wide range of emotional and psychological nuances. A true mirror of the complexity and changeability of sentimental relationships.
