Selezione Cortometraggi Internazionali (EU, A.A.V.V., 2009, 60')* v.o. ven 11 h 17,15 This section came about after an meeting between the Italy - Balkans Network and the Euro – Mediterranean Foundation “Anna Lindh” (ALF), organised in Naples by the Mediterranean Foundation which represents the ALF Network in Italy. International policy experts discussed guidelines and co-operation projects aimed at consolidating a long lasting partnership in a region that remains central to issues of development and peace in the Euro-Mediterranean area and the world at large. That meeting resulted in an number of projects, one of this being a stable and long lasting partnership with the Napoli Film Festival. During that meeting back in February, Artistic Director Mario Violini, indicated that some space in the festival's programme could be devoted to the rich and vibrant film production from the peninsula and such space could be further structured in the coming years.  Already this year, the festival's programme features a small section on intercultural dialogue that was developed by the ALF networks in Italy and the Balkans. The national Representatives of the ALF networks have selected short films from their countries to be screened in a dedicated section of the NFF.  The selected shorts are from Albania, Bosnia Herzegovina, Slovenia and Hungary. Some of these shorts are briefly reviewed below: SIGNS by Odeta Çunaj (Albania) Luigji, a man of 40, is suspicious of his wife. He needs to decide between reality and dreams. THE CHINESE ARE COMING by Goran Vojnovi? (Slovenia) Rudi and Stane are best friends. They work in a factory together and help each other out in everyday life. One day the workers get upset by the news that their employers want to cancel their right to a lunch break. The trade unions disagree, but they cannot do anything about it: workers from China have appeared on the labour market. They are “cheap and they don't even eat lunch”. VARIACIOK by Krisztina Esztergalyos (Hungary) Set on the Balaton Lake, in a hotel about to be demolished, this film represents a variation on the theme of the relationships that may be forged within a group of three women and five men.
