A dance hall singer of about 40 years old, Wilma, just exhibits in little clubs now. In one of them, La Palma d’Oro, she meets Cicala, a woman of ill-repute but who’s really kind. When Wilma is contested by the public and Cicala defends her, the owner, Ermete, fires both of them. Wilma sees the girl as a daughter, and to survive she prostitutes herself. That’s why they meet Ulisse, who proposes them to manage with him a hotel-restaurant including a petrol station. Wilma and Ulisse get married but the truck-drivers stopping by are attracted by the two women and this will bring problems and an inevitable tragedy. For this film, Virna Lisi got awarded with a David di Donatello and a Golden Grolla, while Fred Bongusto got a Silver Ribbon for Best Music.
