Stanley Donen was born in Columbia, South Carolina on April 13, 1924. As a dancer is also hired by Metro Goldwin Mayer as choreographer for the movie Cover Girl in 1944 along with Gene Kelly with whom he will have several collaborations. Specialist in musical comedies, and he signed a brilliant series in the 1950s, almost always collaborating with dancer, choreographer and director Gene Kelly. With him he directed: On the Town in 1949 (first musical out in the open) and sees among the stars Frank Sinatra, and Singing in the Rain (1952). He then directed several solo musicals, including Seven Brides for Seven Brothers (1954), Funny Face (1957), Movie Movie (1978); Brilliant and sophisticated comedies (Charade, 1964; Blame it on Rio, 1984); Psychological (Staircase, 1969) and Fantasy Science (Saturn 3, 1980). In 1955, his relationship with Kelly crashed and within two years the relationship with MGM was broken and he became the producer of his films. In 1998 he received the Academy Award for Career. Film Historian David Quinlan quoted him as "The King of Hollywood Musicals".
