Pisa in the early seventies. Pino is a singer who has never hidden his militancy on the extreme left. One day he becomes convinced that the neo-fascists are preparing a coup d'état, so he decides to escape from Italy with two other friends.
Don Bosco, having dedicated his life to helping children in need, has reached the end of his intensely-lived journey. The boys he has helped are worried and anxious about the blessed man who lies dying on his bed. It is an opportunity for some of them to remember the milestones that have marked the life of this saint.

Divided into three episodes and based on current events, the film was a nightmare for Antonioni, what with the producers on the one hand and the censors, who did everything they could to destroy his original concept. The French episode tells the story of two brothers who plan to murder a friend to steal money. But they that find that not only was the money counterfeit, but the friend had time to expose their misdeeds before he died.
