Adelaide (starred by Monica Vitti) is a florist who starts dating Oreste (starred by Marcello Mastroianni), who is a married construction worker. At one point Nello (starred by Giancarlo Giannini), a pizza chef, places himself in the relationship, seducing Adelaide. The three of them decide to live together, but the one who is very confused is Adelaide, which leaves them after an attempted suicide. The woman then starts a relationship with Amleto (starred by Hércules Cortés), a butcher, but then she changes her mind and chooses Nello.
