Giuliana has attempted suicide and has been in a psychiatric clinic for a time. An industrialist, Conrad, is looking for workers for an operation in Argentina. He knows her husband Ugo from before and also gets to know Giuliana, who seems to be regaining her equilibrium. Everything seems about to collapse, however, when Giuliana's son gets sick and the woman takes on the disease with exaggerated somatic symptoms. Desperate, she throws herself into Corrado's arms and they have an affair. But he has to go to Patagonia and she doesn't seem able to solve her psychological crisis.

In this picture I have captured the feeling of oppression I felt me while watching the films "The Red Desert" and "The Eclipse" by Michelangelo Antonioni. The characters of his films are in a constant state of conflict with themselves and therefore with the world. They feel oppressed by what they are and the pain of living crushes them, preventing them from being able to find a way out of the surrounding darkness that projects into their psyches.

the dull, composed surface of everyday bourgeois life and manners. It is about things that happen in well-established families that are mainly kept secret, but that nevertheless remain painful. We meet two brothers, their wives and lovers – and their children who do not know who their real fathers are.

essential as it is inexistent. He can't manage to live in Bisaccia, nor can he manage to leave it. He wanders round remote, abandoned villages where most of the inhabitants have left, “to find life” and only the weakest have remained.
